The White Dress & The Tornado

Me

Dress—Maurice’s

I just love when I can take myself shopping at the mall.  It had been a while since I’d been mall shopping so I made an entire day of it.  Not only did I need new clothes in general—but I wanted to find things to wear on my next trip overseas.

Yep, I was at the mall from mall opening until mall closing—10am-9pm (probably a man’s nightmare).  But I mean—there are so many stores there to venture inside of that it didn’t surprise me I was there that long.

One store I ventured inside of was Maurice’s where I found this cute little white dress.  I thought it was simply adorable.  It’s perfect whether I go to India for my next trip or whether I go back to the United Arab Emirates.

Mall tornado shelter

But the real fun came when there was a sudden torrential rainstorm going on outside and everyone in the mall was ushered from the stores into a tunnel-type hallway because tornado sirens were going off in the surrounding area.

No one could get a signal on their cell phones inside this narrow passageway either which was irritating.  So there was just a lot of standing around and waiting for the tornado warning to pass—while hoping an actual tornado would not hit us directly.

And although a couple of small twisters did touch down in surrounding areas, fortunately, one did not touch down directly where I was—thank goodness—or I’m sure my car would have been in the next state over when I left the mall to go home.

And since it was raining so hard when I was ready to go home, I had to wait it out so I could actually SEE to drive home because you literally could not see more than a couple of feet in front of you.  There was just no telling when the rain would die down either.

Well—more shopping for me then!

So, if you have nothing else to do today, spend an entire day from morning until evening buying yourself nice things if for no other reason than you deserve it.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Always look at the positive side when you get stuck inside a mall because of bad weather—a little more unexpected eating and shopping never hurt anybody.

Top & Jeans—Victoria’s Secret
Belt—Express

I’m such a fanatic when it comes to the World Cup.  Here I was on my way to meet a friend at a sports bar to watch the USA play Portugal.

Though the color red is missing from this ensemble, I thought it was pretty fitting with the white and navy blue stripes for what I grabbed from my closet in such a hurry.  Had I not been so excited to leave, I probably would have worn a red belt rather than the gold one.  A pop of red could have made the difference.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, mix your team’s colors into your attire before heading out for a fun time.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  It’s always better to calm down and give yourself time to fancy yourself up and think through your options so you’re not left regretting that one tiny accessory that could have made all the difference.

A Warm Hat For A Blistering Cold Day

Fur Hat

Hat—Outdoor festival

I knew this hat would come in handy at some point, but I kept forgetting all about it—mainly because it found a home inside a bottom drawer that I rarely go into.  This little fur hat keeps my head toasty warm on cold winter days.

I love when I “discover” hidden clothing and accessories that I’ve forgotten all about.  They could be buried somewhere deep in the trenches that I rarely access on a day-to-day basis.  That’s why I’m so surprised when I “find” them and they resurface.

I was out and about at a yearly outdoor festival about five years ago when I happened across one of several little huts selling various items—which included this hat staring back at me.  I just had to have it.

For those of you that don’t know, I’m not a cold-weather girl at all.  The only positives I see about the blithering cold are being able to wear my winter fashions—and the possibility of a workplace shutdown if there’s a good amount of snow.  Other than that, I could do without cold weather the rest of my life.

And now with the warm weather quickly approaching (fingers crossed), I figured I might as well get what use I can out of this hat since I plopped down perfectly good money for it and haven’t worn it once in the five years since I’ve had it.

I’m a big believer in not “saving” your good things for only special occasions that may or may not happen.  Every day is special because you get to live another day.  I say wear your good clothes, hats, shoes, bags, and use your best china dishes and all your other things.

After all, you got these things for yourself to enjoy—so you should enjoy them on a regular basis while you have the chance, not once in a blue moon.  After all, when you’re gone—someone else is going to enjoy all the fine things you got for yourself to enjoy with your hard-earned money.  Which technically means you’re buying things for everyone else to enjoy after you’re gone.  That’s NONSENSE and crazy talk, I say!

So, if you have nothing else to do today, rummage through your home and see if you can’t find something that’s been hidden away for a while that you can actually enjoy today and on a regular basis.  You deserve it after all.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Don’t keep your things buried where you’ll forget about them for ages.  Use your good things while you can—and don’t worry so much about things cracking, breaking, wearing out, ripping, and whatnot.  That’s all the more reason for you to acquire something new to enjoy when the time comes to replace it!

Waterfall White Fashion

In a white dress

This is an outfit I chose for an outing with a date.  I couldn’t begin to tell you where I got the dress, shoes, or bracelet, but I pulled them from my closet and thought the combo would be a fun date outfit—the all-white look.  And I’m definitely one of those people who believe you can wear any color any time of year.  If you know you’re a person that can pull anything off any time of year, then hey, you don’t have any problems.  So I don’t believe in that ‘no-white-after-Labor-Day’ nonsense.

Needless to say, the date didn’t turn out to be so fun—but it was what it was.  You only get one shot with me, sweet cheeks!

I loved the background where this picture was taken.  It’s directly in front of a hotel in a ritzy part of town that had a fabulous waterfall.  The perfect spot for a picture.  Sadly, this was the only good memory from the evening.  And, thank goodness, I got it on camera!

So, if you have nothing else to do today, try the all-white look or any look for that matter, go out and do a photo shoot in front of some beautiful scenery, and put your pics into a photo album as a keepsake.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Find people who are deserving of the time and energy it takes you to get ready for a date and will be great company.  Ugh!
