For The Love Of Plaid

Street Style - Men

A color combination of blue and green a lot of people may not have tried, but it worked for this guy.  He totally had the look for it.  The plaid shirt stood out and the rugged brown shoes set it off.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, get creative with a plaid print in a fun color on the top or the bottom.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Unexpected color combinations can sometimes work well together when you least expect it.

Zigzag Style

I saw these pants flutter past me and I just had to have a look-see.  I like that they’re not plain old black pants.  I love how she kept the top simple because it brings out the pants that much more.  Then she did just enough accessorizing with the jewelry to finish it off.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, think about ways you can introduce some zigzag or funky prints into your wardrobe.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  There’s nothing wrong with channeling your inner zigzag so folks will stop and have a look-see.

Funky Blues And Florals

How funky can you get at a fashion show?  Bold?  Risky?  Awww, yeah, no one can say he’s not a risk-taker with his style.  I love to see something new and different on the humans.  Why should we all look alike all the time?

So, if you have nothing else to do today, work some blues and florals into your life.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Be bold and risky with your style every now and again and do something new and different that’s all your own.

Fun With A Scarf

Street Style - Children

CAMRYN
(At a fashion show)

What a cute blue dress with a fabulous scarf!  I just love that she even thought to toss a scarf around her neck in a stylish way.  She has a style all her own for a young one.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, try the many different ways there are to wear a scarf and/or infuse yourself with the color blue.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  If a young’un can manage to put a little style and thought into her outfit, there’s really no excuse for anyone older than she is.

Fashion Week For Fall/Winter 2014

Fashion Show FW 2014

I just love fashion week—especially when I get to attend it in my hometown.  Granted the shows are spaced out every six months, but I enjoy myself when they do roll around.  This was only my second time attending, but I plan to make it a regular occurrence.

I was hoping to see some stylish and funky fashions on people who were attending the fashion show (it is a fashion show after all—HELLO)—but they were few and far between.  It is so unlike being at a major fashion show in London or Paris where almost EVERYONE at the show everywhere you turn is dressed to the nines with their own personal style in a funky and eclectic way.

I mean, people were dressed just fine and nicely here—but nothing really tickled my fancy with 95% of the crowd (a rather disappointing number, in my opinion).

I do realize I cannot, personally, make my city put some thought into their clothing choices or even attempt to be soigné on some level.  So I silently mourn this and move on to the few people I CAN find.  (I am so excited I will be showing these people on this blog over the next few days.)

The confusing thing to me about this show is that these were supposed to be the collections for fall/winter 2014.  And I only saw a couple of designers’ clothing that came the closest to being fall/winter collections.

Granted, the other designers could have been showing fall/winter collections specifically for the Bahamas and Puerto Rico—but this is not what we’re used to in the fashion world.  So I was a bit confused.

Since my hometown is emulating the major fashion hubs such as New York, London, and Paris—this is how the showings are supposed to go:

  • View collections around February/March for the following Fall/Winter season.
  • View collections around September/October for the following Spring/Summer season.

I know it doesn’t make a lot of sense to most people to see winter clothing coming down the runway in the springtime or summer clothing in the autumn/fall time, but this is how it has always been done.

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense.  The reason the fall/winter fashions are being shown now during the springtime is:

  • to give the store buyers plenty of time to make their fall/winter purchases from the designers for the stores before wintertime,
  • to give the designers time to make the amount of clothing needed that the stores have purchased
  • to have plenty of time for the designers to ship everything to the stores way before the fall/winter season hits after they are made

Needless to say, the clothes were still fabulous no matter what season they were intended for or what island they were intended for.  I must say, there were some very talented designers.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, think about how you can kick your outfit up a notch by putting some thought into your clothing choices each day—but always be yourself.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  There’s nothing wrong with standing out in a sea of people who all look alike.  So don’t be afraid to spice up your look every now and again and always look your best.  Have fun while you can in life.

Ooooo—A New Hometown Cafe!

Cafe - Baked Goods

Baked goods at their finest.

Oh, I just LOVE when new little cafes pop up around town.  I had the fortunate pleasure of being invited to a “Grand Opening” of this new cafe in town.  Meaning FREE FOOD for the invitees.  O-kaaaay!  Who am I to turn down a free meal?

I just happen to know the manager who will be running this little shindig called Corner Bakery Cafe.  The place is marvelous and I could not possibly speak enough about the baked goods that I saw through the glass case as my eyes got bigger and bigger.

Egg Scrambler made with eggs, applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes, green onions, cheddar cheese, and avocado; served with potatoes, toast, and a cinnamon muffin.

French Toast made with cinnamon-swirled brioche bread baked in vanilla custard and a side of maple syrup; served with applewood smoked bacon, and fruit.

I was offered the chance to come to either breakfast, lunch, or dinner and I chose to go early morning to breakfast.  My, my, my—how I just LOVED my egg scramble.  That sucker was amazingly good.  I’m definitely going back for another helping of that at some point.

Why do all of these hometown cafes have to be so good?  I mean, now we’re talking this makes the THIRD different cafe I will now be shuffling back and forth to.  All three of them literally make a big triangle in my city—or at least a funny looking shaped triangle, but a triangle nonetheless.

They are spaced country miles apart from each other—which doesn’t help ME any!  Who’s bright idea was this?  I don’t understand why they can’t all be right next door to each other to make MY life easier.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, search high and low for new cafes/hometown diners opening up in your part of town and give them a try.  You just may discover some new deliciousness in your part of the world.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Running around between three different cafes in town spaced miles and miles apart from each other is a lot of work—but someone’s got to do it so it might as well be you.
