My Trip To Dubai (Part 4)

Me

I’m all ready to go see the famous Burj Al Arab hotel.

Now I’m on my way to Jumeirah to see the Burj Al Arab.  Ohhh, my goodness gracious I’m so excited.

The Burj Al Arab

What can I say about this magnificent creature?  I’m speechless, I tell you.  Totally speechless.  I can’t even begin to describe its beauty.

I was on my way to have lunch at the Al Muntaha restaurant.  First of all, you’re not even allowed to go up the long drive that leads directly up to the hotel without having a reservation either at the hotel or at one of the restaurants at the hotel.  You have to show security at the gate that you actually have a reservation or you’re not getting anywhere close to that bad boy.  No siree!

The taxi drivers will even ask you when you first get into the car if you have a reservation there because they already know they aren’t getting past a certain point if you don’t have one.  So don’t even try it!

I found this interesting video on how the Burj Al Arab was built.  It totally blew my mind.

I did some sightseeing outside the hotel and wandered around the inside of the first floor.  Then I made my way to the restaurant’s personal elevator/lift that goes directly from the first floor straight to the restaurant.

And, oh my goodness, what a view of the sea from that glass elevator ride!  I wanted to ride it all day long like a little kid—up down, up down.

The view from the restaurant windows is even more fabulous.  You look directly out the window and all you see below you is the beautiful Persian Gulf/Arabian Sea.  Pure gorgeousness!  You’re literally out on the sea in this hotel!

I thought it was amazing to have a hotel built directly into the sea away from shore.  I was curious how they did it.  As I was looking out the windows, I was just hoping the hotel wouldn’t suddenly sink while I was in it.  Can that even happen?

I was even impressed with the bathroom in the restaurant.  It’s so spa-like.  There’s a restroom attendant in there that keeps the individual cloth hand towels rolled and stacked in pyramid form as ladies take one to dry their hands and discard it into the bin.

Now for lunch.  My appetizers came out first, then my $54 salad—which tasted like a forest!  Let’s talk about my $54 salad, shall we?  I’ve never had a $54 salad before—which amounted to 200 dirhams.

But, here’s the thing—why doesn’t it come with dressing of some sort?  Salad dressing would have made ALL the difference.  They didn’t ask me my choice of dressing nor did they bring any out.  So, naturally, I could only suffer half of it down.  Doesn’t $54 / 200 AED cover dressing?!

But my main course and side dish was simply delicious!  I had a lovely time dining so high up in that marvelous restaurant.

This is a place I definitely have to come back to.  I fell in love.

My next stop at the Burj Al Arab will definitely be eating at the restaurant buried deep inside the sea—the Al Mahara.  I’ll definitely take pictures of myself dining amongst all the fishes and sharks down below.  I mean, who eats dinner inside the sea?!

So, if you have nothing else to do today, grab some snacks and watch the video way up above on how the Burj Al Arab was built.  It’ll totally amaze you.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Hide some McDonald’s salad dressing packets inside your pockets before arriving at the Al Muntaha restaurant so you can actually enjoy your $54 / 200 dirhams salad.

    1. I thought they would look at me crazy if I asked. Lol! I figured as top notch as they were, if it came with dressing they would have brought it out or asked. I probably should have said something though.

      1. I have eaten there just ask! I asked for lots of things! If you get a chance go across to madinat hotel.. It’s next door to the beach hotel.. The bar has a great view of the burj.

  1. WOW WOW and WOW! DH and I just watched the “Making of . . .” movie of the building of this structure and were blown away by how many times and places the whole thing could have come to a total disaster. At $28,000. a night for a room, I don’t anticipate being able to see it in person any time soon!

Now about that food . . . was each course priced separately like the salad? If a salad was such a high price, I can only imagine how real food must have been valued.

    Virtual hugs,

    Judie

    1. Oh, Judilyn, I’m glad you got a chance to watch the video. I was totally BLOWN AWAY watching that video. I couldn’t believe I was actually inside that building let alone the restaurant suspended in the air hanging off the cliff of the building! I thought, “Wow, I was eating inside that rectangle of a thing suspended in mid-air right there?!!!!”

Watching them build it freaked me out because it seemed they were so concerned at every step along the way that it could crash into the sea if a small thing was out of place!! My gosh! I said to myself, “I was inside that place?!” Omg. But she’s a beauty though, I’ll tell you that—as long as she stays afloat. Lol. 😉

    2. Yeah, and the food was priced separately “a la carte.” So don’t even ask about the cost of the main course. Lol.

  2. Beautiful articles and seems like it was a great trip. It is after so long that I have been seeing you in pictures and it feels great. I am yet to see the video. Will enjoy that tomorrow for it is midnight when I am writing this comment. Enjoy and keep smiling always. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much and I’m so sorry I have not been around in a long time on any of my social media. I had to stay away for a while for different reasons. I promise I’ll try to do better. I’m glad I am able to make you smile when I’m around. 🙂

      1. Times change and so does the priority for a lot of things. You don’t need to be sorry but feel happy instead that you are back again.
Your every post seems better than the last one.
        Keep that up. 🙂

  3. You captured Burj Al Arab’s opulence beautifully! Love seeing your pics, hearing your stories … you personalize them wonderfully! Gotta say – it’s kinda funny you have a disdain for flying, yet love elevator rides reaching great heights, with nothing but a pane of glass keeping you strapped in, lol!

    1. LOL! I know, right?! That’s crazy. Me and heights just don’t DO. Yet there I go doing crazy things I can’t explain. Thanks, Dan! 🙂

  4. Cita! Your review series on Dubai is so detailed and excellent. The Sheikh of Dubai is sure to appoint you their Tourism minister. Awesome write up. ☺

  5. Wow, now that’s a fancy place to eat. But next time do remember to bring along one of those squeeze packets of Italian or maybe blue cheese. 😉 Thanks for stories and photos. Who knows when or if I’ll ever get to see this place!

    1. You’re welcome, Mike. I’m glad you can live vicariously through me in case you never make it there. 🙂 Yes, it was a fancy restaurant and I will definitely take my own squeeze packets of dressing next time. Lol. 😉
