Shrimp Scampi With Angel Hair Pasta

Shrimp Scampi

Made with angel hair pasta, shrimp, olive oil, minced garlic cloves, red pepper flakes, lemon juice, lemon zest, white wine, butter, and fresh parsley.

I actually made this recipe for someone else—because, eewwww, seafood grosses me out.  I mean, have you seen what seafood looks like when it’s ALIVE?!  I can’t even imagine eating it.

Maybe it’s because when I was growing up we never ate seafood— unless you count frozen fish sticks in a box as seafood, then OK we did.  But that’s about it!

So, needless to say, trying to cook with something as simple as shrimp was a disgusting chore.  I used super long tongs to grab the shrimp every time I needed to do something with them.  I just kept imagining these things were alive at some point with their little antennas and all.

I had also bought them already peeled and deveined.  I couldn’t even imagine doing surgery on shrimp myself.  YUCK!

But before I put the shrimp into the pasta I, naturally, scooped myself up a dose of the pasta without the shrimp because I knew once the shrimp touched it I wouldn’t be having dinner at all.

Recipe for—Shrimp Scampi with Angel Hair Pasta

So, if you have nothing else to do today, get up close and personal with some seafood if you dare.  And, if you’re so bold, pull some lobster, octopus, crabs, clams, oysters, shrimp, or shark fresh out of water ALIVE and then cook, cut, and chop or vice versa—EEWWW!

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Rubber gloves and super long tongs can help when you want to keep your distance from any seafood while cooking with it.

  1. thinking my love of the flavor of shrimp overrides any thoughts on its mortality. Shrimp scampi may just be my favorite dish ever! You’re a brave woman to soldier through 🙂

  2. Gee, I can’t believe you don’t like seafood. I don’t like eggplant, squash, turnips, and the like. But cream cheese makes me ill. I tried…I guess we all have our dislikes….lol.

    1. Lol. I know. I have all these images in my head of what they look like alive and can’t bring myself to touch them much less eat them. Yeah, eggplant and turnips aren’t really to my liking much either. Interesting about the cream cheese making you ill.

  3. Lol…you are too funny! A dead little shrimp can’t hurt you…all the yucky stuff was gone! I bet the “with shrimp” version was terrific 🙂

    1. Lol! You never know if it will or not—eyes and feelers could appear at any moment during the handling. 🙂 Yeah, I HEARD it was really good with the shrimp. Note the word “heard.” I’ll take anyone’s word for it because my mouth is not going near it.

  4. For yourself, leave out the shrimp, and add chicky bits, colorful bell peppers, and the green and white parts of as many scallions as suit you. Also good with Feta cheese instead of meat, but go easy because it is very salty. Want more protein? Soft scramble some eggs (one or one and a half per serving), or make a plain omelet and cut into strips.

    1. Good idea, Judilyn, because the pasta by itself was actually good. I should have made something else for myself to put into my pasta.

      1. I do separate things like that all the time. Doesn’t take long if you have a few scraps of veggies leftover, and some eggs/cheese. Everybody is happy. ;->

  5. Ha ha ha
Shrimps are delicious! You have to give it a chance.
Cleaning the shrimps is also very easy. If I can do it, anyone can! 🙂
By the way, I had no idea there is a pasta called angel hair! 😀

    1. Yes, I never thought about the angel hair name before. We’re so used to it here. I guess it is a funny name if you’ve never heard of it. And, NO, Hari! I can’t do the shrimp thing. I accidentally ate some fried crumbled up crispy shrimp before because I was tricked by a friend into thinking it was fried crispy chicken pieces. It was actually good when I ate it, but once she told me what it was–I had to run to the bathroom to try and barf it up.

      1. ha ha ha
Is there any reason why you do not like shrimps? Anything traumatic? I’m not a fan of hard-boiled egg yolk because I was almost choked to dead by it when I was a kid – it happened several times, actually.

        1. Have you seen shrimp ALIVE? That’s why. They look disgusting and scary. Just like lobster, crabs, and octopus. Why would I want to eat that? No thanks. And what are you doing choking that many times on egg yolks? You’re not supposed to swallow it WHOLE! Chew it first for Pete’s sake. Lol!

          1. The yolk got creamy and they suddenly filled my whole throat ha ha ha
and I have seen shrimp alive. In fact, I prefer them alive when I buy them. (They are fresher)
and I am also very good at cooking lobster… alive! Are you scared of me now?
            (laughing… and raise one eyebrow… devilishly) :p

  6. LOL I can just imagine this as I read. My husband doesn’t like seafood (aside from fish) either but I enjoy it (although I don’t enjoy peeling prawns I must say). I hope your seafoodless pasta was good, it sounds like it should have been by the other ingredients.

    1. Lol! The pasta was great. A couple years ago, I just started eating salmon for the first time. But I can only eat fish if it’s seasoned really well and doesn’t look much like an actual fish. Lol. I’ve only cooked fish at home a couple times before and it was a little scary, but not as bad as all those other seafood creatures would be! Ugh. I’d rather a restaurant cook my fish though.
