Moving My Blog & Why I’ve Been MIA

Me in an airport

Hi, everybodyyyyy!  I hope each and every one of you are doing fabulous as always.  You all still look beautiful from what I’ve seen!

Anyway, I decided to self-host my blog a while back—and if all goes well, all of you who have subscribed to follow me via the WordPress reader should move over seamlessly.  (I’m keeping my fingers crossed anyway.)  Any of you who have subscribed to this blog via email should not be affected whatsoever (let’s hope).

The entire process of converting over has been a little technical and time-consuming for me to say the least (hence, a big part of the reason for my absence).  But all the hard work I put into it was totally worth it.  I’m still trying to make this blog look the way I want it to in the easiest way possible on my own without any hired help.  (Always try the least expensive way first, I always say.)  But that involves a lot of researching, reading books, and Googling on my own during what little free time I can find.  This will be a constant work in progress as I’m always finding new ways to tweak it.

My First Blog Interview—How Fun!

Blog Interview

Oh, what fun it was for me to do my very first blog interview with “Aromas and Flavors from my Kitchen“.  I was pleasantly surprised when I was asked to be interviewed.  Who me?!  When the questions were given to me I thought they were very interesting.  I loved every minute of it and had a ball doling out my answers.

My interviewer was so awesome and I thought the way it was presented on their blog was well done and so professional.  I was extremely honored.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, see here for the full-length interview:  “Blog Feature: Loving Food, Fashion, & Life” from Aromas and Flavors from my Kitchen.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  All your hard work blogging is finally paying off.  Somebody out there really does like your blog whether you know it or not.

What A Time Suck

Desk

I have to say—I spend an exorbitant amount of time at this desk, at this computer when I’m at home.  So much so that I find myself falling straight asleep at this very desk into the wee hours of the night—and sometimes day hours.  (Are there “wee” day hours, too?)

And not even just wee hours—sometimes they’re hours when I should be wide awake.  But good thing I already have my PJ’s on before this point though.

One time I fell into such a deep state of sleep while sitting that my upper body slowly rocked forward and my head hit the computer monitor with a massive bang—and this was right after my gum rolled out of my mouth and onto the keyboard.  Oh wait!  That whole scenario happened when I was at work at the office.  But that’s neither here nor there.

My point is—if I’m at a computer for an extended period of time and starting to get tired, chances are the above scenario is likely to play out no matter where I am.  The gum problem could be solved if I just keep gum out of my mouth.  The head-banging?  That’s another issue entirely only resolved by knowing my computer limits and sleep maximizationing.  (Is that even a word?)

So, if you have nothing else to do today, find a variety of other ways to spend your time to balance out your time on the computer.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Obviously put a bike helmet on before sitting in front of a computer.

Your ‘About’ Page Is Driving Me Nuts!

OMG, I've Been Nominated!

Click here to check out ‘My Blog Awards’ page! (I’ve since removed this page.)

So, if you have nothing else to do today, check out My Blog Awards’ page. (I’ve since removed this page.)

Take-Away Life Lesson:  If you know what’s good for you, you’ll have a look-see at ‘My Blog Awards’ page. (I’ve since removed this page.)

Your 'About' Page Is Driving Me Nuts!

About Page

This subject just warrants an entire post about itself!  I understand some of you are new to blogging so I totally get that.  But maybe we need to do a little more research on blogging before we just jump out there posting things.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at a blog’s ‘About’ page and gotten the above message.  What does that TELL me really about your blog?  I want to know about you and your blog.  I don’t want to see the default WordPress verbage over and over.

And how would that look if I actually ‘LIKED’ that page right there?  It would reflect badly on myself, actually.

And some of you are putting your ‘About’ information as your very first blog post that you do.  Again, I totally get it if you’re new to blogging—but you really need to move that information from your FIRST BLOG POST to your ABOUT page so we can easily get to it and see it whenever we want to.

Nobody will see it anymore if it’s the first blog post once you start posting many other articles on your blog.  Trust me, it’ll get lost in the archives and no one will have time to dig for it.

What REALLY kills me, is that from the looks of some of the hundreds of thousands of posts some of you have on your blog—some of you have obviously been blogging since the 1920’s and your ‘About’ page STILL looks like this!!  So you’ve had plenty of time to get it together, people.

I mean, I’ve seen a DOG with an ‘About’ page that was up and running properly.  No, seriously.  I kid you not!

And if you choose NOT to write anything about yourself or your blog and just want to leave us guessing—GREAT!  But could you please do us all a favor and at least DELETE that crazy wording that defaults on the ‘About’ page?  Or even better—just delete the ‘About’ page altogether.

But, generally speaking, I’d like to know who you are or what your blog is about when I’m reading your blog.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, how about giving us some fabulous information about yourself or what your blog is about on your actual ‘About’ page?  That’d be nice.

I’m glad to help those folks along that just didn’t know any better.  No worries.  I’ll show you the way.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Study all you can about blogging before even attempting to start a blog and you will find out the bare basics you need to know to get your blog rolling before the public even sees it.

My First Blog Post

Champagne glasses

Happy New Year, everyone!  I am so excited about my new blog and another new year to make my (our) life as fabulous as I (we) possibly can!  I can’t wait to share with you the different things that I do in my life to have fun and to learn and experience new things—and I can’t wait to hear about yours.

I mean, my life is not always THAT exciting or anything and it’s sometimes boring as you will soon see—but I try to do what I can for me—even if it just involves food.  Whatever floats my boat at the time, makes me happy, gets me excited, let’s me feel like I didn’t totally waste my day or my life in general.

But trust me, I’ve had and still have plenty of wasteful moments—(like the time I sat in a hospital waiting area for 12 hours twiddling my thumbs and looking at the walls all the while thinking of the 50 magazines I had sitting on my floor at home because I could never find time to look at them—and here would have been a great opportunity had I remembered them).  But now I just try not to have so many wasteful moments anymore if I can help it.

First order of business—learning to blog.  Because I’m a novice at this, I am still trying to figure this thing out—so bear with me.  Any helpful feedback will be greatly appreciated.  If you have any blogging tips, notice any errors or something that doesn’t seem to be working properly, or have any thoughts in general about this blog or anything else for that matter, I welcome your comments and suggestions (see my Contact page).  I know I will get better at this as I go along.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, contemplate what makes you happy, makes you smile, brings you joy, or will make your life go in the direction you want it to go.  If nothing else, you can always learn to blog and/or send me your blogging tips in the comments below.

Until we meet again, here is my first blog post.  My hope is that with each post we can all find a ‘take-away life lesson’ of some sort—no matter how big and meaningful or small, silly, and mundane.  I hope you enjoy this blog overall and that we can share our love of food, fashion, and life together.  Cheers to you, my new blog, and our fabulous lives!

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Find any reason to sip on some good champagne.  O-Kaaay!
