Baked Desserts

Toffee Cookie, Cinnamon Crumb Muffin, Brownie, Pumpkin Bread, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Maple Pecan Bar, Lemon Pound Cake, Chocolate Baby Bundt Cake

There’s nothing like stopping by my new hometown cafe for nothing other than loading up on a lot of baked desserts all for myself.  I’ll tell you—that Corner Bakery Cafe isn’t getting rid of me anytime soon.  Everything looked so fantastic that it was hard to choose—so let’s just start loading up with one of each so our brains don’t have to think that hard.

When I finally got home, I arranged them out all nice and pretty on a couple of plates so I could look at them for brief spell.

Ohhh, where to start, where to start???

So, if you have nothing else to do today, rise and shine early and go grab a variety of fresh-baked lovin’ straight from the oven from your local bakery, cafe, or diner.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  There’s nothing like starting your day off right with fresh-baked desserts.

Cinnamon Crumb Cake

Oh, I happened upon this lovely cinnamon crumb cake as I mosied my way over to the bakery area of Whole Foods Market.  As you can clearly see, I didn’t really have a choice but to put it into my shopping cart.

Butter Cake

How awesome is it that I keep having the privilege of getting a fabulous slice of heaven in a gooey butter cake from the extremely nice man who is always buying these for me by surprise?!

He’s so sweet!  He usually just shows up outta nowhere and hands me a sack with butter cake in it that he bought me only moments ago, says his hellos, gives his hug, and off he goes.  I just adore him!

So, if you have nothing else to do today, either go find yourself some butter cake, bake yourself some butter cake, or be extremely nice to anyone who is within butter-cake-range that knows it’s one of your favorite things.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  You really don’t need to eat this with a fork all the time like a proper princess.  Direct hand-to-cake-to-mouth contact is just as fun, exciting, and delicious.  Eat like there’s no tomorrow!

It’s A Rock Star Mexican Night

It's A Rock Star Mexican Night

Chicken Chimichanga

Chicken Chimichanga with rice and beans.

So I decided to stop at a Mexican joint to get take-out.  Surprisingly, the food actually made it to my house this time without getting devoured in the car first.

If you’re wondering why there are two entrées, wonder no more.  It’s ME we’re talking about here!  When you can’t decide between entrées, you know my rule of thumb—just get them both to enjoy.

Chicken Quesadilla

Chicken Quesadilla with rice, beans, lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream.

My fun evening:

Eating Mexican, listening to ‘Treasure’ by Bruno Mars blasting through my crib, bobbing my head like a rock star, dancing all around the house, and stuffing my face.

Yeah, it’s what I do.  If you could only see me now.  I’m having a great time!  Can it get any better than this?!  It’s one big party for ONE, y’all!!  Heeeyyyyy!

Topped it all off with a Gooey Butter Cake.  Yeah, that’s right.  The super nice man who is always surprising me with butter cake all the time, DID HIS THING AGAIN!!  And I’m LOVIN’ IT!  Yeah, baby.

I love unexpected surprises (it makes me smile BIG) and I’m not one to turn down a free butter cake—EVER!

So, if you have nothing else to do today, find your favorite Mexican restaurant and order up some take-out food, crank up Bruno Mars ‘Treasure’ (or one of your favorite songs), and dance like there’s no tomorrow while you bob your brains out!

Take-Away Life Lesson:  When you can’t decide what you want the most of off of the menu—just get one of each and stop stressing your brain.  It’ll be ok.  Eat from both entrées.  And if you try really hard, you could probably stretch some of it out for tomorrow’s leftovers.

It's Angel Food Cake—Not A Hot Dog

Angel Food Cake

So, I buy one of those big round angel food cakes they sell in grocery stores.  Yeah, I sliced it down the middle for one serving.  Naturally, I didn’t think it was that big a deal.  It’s SO light-weight, after all.  How do you get full from a tiny slice of this?!  I knew I’d be going for 2nds and 3rds anyway.  It’s air, for Pete’s sake!

So, I innocently put the one-half piece inside a paper towel and proceeded to walk around eating it similar to how you’d eat a hot dog—you know, direct mouth contact.  Of course I didn’t think much of it at the time.  I guess I was eating it as if it was something natural to do—clearly unaware of my immediate surroundings.

Well, a dear friend happened upon me while I was eating and the next thing I heard was, “DDDAAAAANNNNGGGGG!!  I thought you had a loaf of bread in your hand!”  (Talk about making somebody feel bad and like a pig—but clearly not bad enough to stop me.)

So, if you have nothing else to do today, look at the label first and maybe slice an angel food cake into the number of recommended serving sizes the manufacturer thinks it should serve.  Do this if for no other reason than appearances sake if others are around.  BUT if you’re by yourself—it’s on and poppin’.  Who cares?

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Stop eating in front of people unless you can clearly eat like their ‘kind.’

Gooey Butter Cake Heaven

Butter Cake

Ooohhhhh, my goodness!  What can I possibly tell you people about this fabulous butter cake that would even come close to having you comprehend its divineness?

Now, I didn’t make this particular cake myself.  I do, however, have plans to attempt to make this personally at some point in the future once I find the correct recipe.

This particular cake came from a local coffeehouse.  This super nice man I know bought one for me one day on a whim. (He surprises me like that sometimes with scrumptious treats.)  I had no clue what it was, but it looked yummy.  So I took a bite and———OH, MY, HEAVENS TO BETSY!!

Now THAT is some yummy, gooey, crunchy, rich, sweet, heavy, buttery cake if I ever tasted one.  This is my personal opinion, of course—but I just couldn’t stop buying it every day since that point once I found out where he bought it from.  What has this man done to me!!!

I mean, we all know I’m already on a cinnamon roll kick—but I clearly need an additional addiction.  This is now my go-to cake.  And y’all know I’m not gonna stop at one slice.

Butter Cake

Well, the very next day I called the coffeehouse to find out what the name of this square thingy was and they said, “Oh, you must mean the butter cake.”  So the next opportunity I had, I went to the coffeehouse to make sure we were talking about the same thing.  Once I saw it, I bought a piece—or two.  Aw, yeah!!  Now we’re talking.

I am so insane for this cake that I did research on the Internet to find a recipe for it.  There were so many different types that I had to search by pictures first to see which picture came the closest to looking like this particular buttery goodness.

Most of the pics that look like this call this ‘Gooey Butter Cake.’  Oh, the ‘gooey’ just makes so much sense.

And you really are not allowed to talk to me while I’m eating this madness.  I’m in a whole other orbit not to be messed with.  Just let me have my moment to be one with the cake.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, do some research and hunt down this buttery fabulousness in your area to hoard for yourself.  And if you can’t easily find it, just bake one yourself from a recipe that looks like the pics above.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Ask the coffeehouse how much it would cost to buy a WHOLE cake next time (if such a thing is possible).  I mean, who are we kidding here with these slices?  Once you find something that transcends you into another orbit—go and become one with it in peace.  It’s a love like you’ve never experienced before.
