Fashion Week For Spring/Summer 2015

Fashion Week SS 2015

As anyone knows, I just LOVE fashion week when it rolls around.  There are always several shows to choose from to attend that week and I usually go to at least one of them.

For this particular week, I chose to attend the show where some of the “Project Runway” designers were showing their collections.  I mean, after all, I used to watch “Project Runway” on television all the time at one point—though I haven’t in a very long time.

Casanova, Michael Drummond, Laura Kathleen, Joshua McKinley, Althea Harper, and Anthony Ryan were the six designers who showcased this particular evening and let me tell you—I was expecting a little more from some of them since they were “Project Runway” designers.

I, personally, thought the “regular” designers from the shows last season presented much better clothing than some of the “Project Runway” designers did.  So I was a little disappointed—but I had a fabulous time nonetheless.

I mean, some of the fashion you see on the guests attending these shows are sometimes worth the entire experience.  It’s always a fun time!

So, if you have nothing else to do today, go to a fashion show for the loud music, the drinks, and to mingle with the other guests while at the same time knowing you may not be impressed with a lot of things coming down the runway.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Never get your hopes up when attending an event just because somewhat “famous” people are going to be there.  We’re all human after all.

Fashion Week For Fall/Winter 2014

Fashion Show FW 2014

I just love fashion week—especially when I get to attend it in my hometown.  Granted the shows are spaced out every six months, but I enjoy myself when they do roll around.  This was only my second time attending, but I plan to make it a regular occurrence.

I was hoping to see some stylish and funky fashions on people who were attending the fashion show (it is a fashion show after all—HELLO)—but they were few and far between.  It is so unlike being at a major fashion show in London or Paris where almost EVERYONE at the show everywhere you turn is dressed to the nines with their own personal style in a funky and eclectic way.

I mean, people were dressed just fine and nicely here—but nothing really tickled my fancy with 95% of the crowd (a rather disappointing number, in my opinion).

I do realize I cannot, personally, make my city put some thought into their clothing choices or even attempt to be soigné on some level.  So I silently mourn this and move on to the few people I CAN find.  (I am so excited I will be showing these people on this blog over the next few days.)

The confusing thing to me about this show is that these were supposed to be the collections for fall/winter 2014.  And I only saw a couple of designers’ clothing that came the closest to being fall/winter collections.

Granted, the other designers could have been showing fall/winter collections specifically for the Bahamas and Puerto Rico—but this is not what we’re used to in the fashion world.  So I was a bit confused.

Since my hometown is emulating the major fashion hubs such as New York, London, and Paris—this is how the showings are supposed to go:

  • View collections around February/March for the following Fall/Winter season.
  • View collections around September/October for the following Spring/Summer season.

I know it doesn’t make a lot of sense to most people to see winter clothing coming down the runway in the springtime or summer clothing in the autumn/fall time, but this is how it has always been done.

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense.  The reason the fall/winter fashions are being shown now during the springtime is:

  • to give the store buyers plenty of time to make their fall/winter purchases from the designers for the stores before wintertime,
  • to give the designers time to make the amount of clothing needed that the stores have purchased
  • to have plenty of time for the designers to ship everything to the stores way before the fall/winter season hits after they are made

Needless to say, the clothes were still fabulous no matter what season they were intended for or what island they were intended for.  I must say, there were some very talented designers.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, think about how you can kick your outfit up a notch by putting some thought into your clothing choices each day—but always be yourself.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  There’s nothing wrong with standing out in a sea of people who all look alike.  So don’t be afraid to spice up your look every now and again and always look your best.  Have fun while you can in life.

A Fashion Show Adventure

Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014

Well this was my first time being a spectator at a fashion show in person.  I have to say, it was super fun.  I went two nights in a row and saw different designers rockin’ their designs down the runway.  So awesome!

I got there early and started taking some pictures hoping to catch some interesting fashions on anyone.

Ava & Madelynn
Jackets, Dresses, Shoes—Justice

And look at these two little divas!  How adorbz are they?

The girl on the left is Ava (she’s 7 years old) and the girl on the right is her sister Madelynn (her birthday was the same day of the show and she just turned 9 years old).

I have to say—I thought I’d be snapping pictures of a lot more people in interesting outfits but these two girls had the most interesting outfits on of the evening.  Not that everyone else didn’t look nice—everyone was dressed rather well.  There just wasn’t anything spectacular, you know?  A lot of folks kind of looked similar to each other.  Nothing really stood out to me other than the girls.

Thanks for letting me take your fabulous picture, girls!

On Me:  Top—Victoria’s Secret; Tie—Men’s Wearhouse; Belt—Charlotte Russe

Another fashion spectator diva at the show was Miss Jami who was so gracious to allow me to take her picture.

Fashion Show DJ
In a league all his own.

Now THIS did catch my attention!  The DJ was groovin’ the music super loud ALL night long!  I mean—nonstop!  And he never stood still.  He was dancing all over the place in that DJ booth.  His head almost fell off.  ROCK ON, dude!

But his flowered pajama bottoms are what caught my attention.  You go, boy!  Nobody is going to tell him what he can and cannot wear!

It was a pretty full house.  The fashion show didn’t quite sell out but it was plenty full of people.

Oh, and can I just say—the MEN are divine at these shows—or at least the show I went to.  And I’m talking about the finely dressed distinguished gentlemen sitting in the audience watching the show and/or in the photographer pit taking pictures.  Suits and ties and debonair, I tell you.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, scope out the next fashion show you can possibly attend—and GO and have a good time.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  It’s always good to have an extra set of earplugs on standby in case you’re around loud music for 3 hours straight.
