I Got Myself Into Trouble Again

Is it no surprise that they “yelled” at me again for taking pictures in Whole Foods?  I should have known better.  I just couldn’t contain myself when I passed through the bakery and saw the display case.

This was a different set of people who “yelled” at me though.  So they had no idea I had already talked to a manager months ago when this same incident occurred.

It was my fault, after all, because I should have first stopped and told a manager in customer service like they suggested I do the last time this happened.  At least they let me finish taking my shots.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, enjoy the lovely bakery department at your nearest Whole Foods Market—or any bakery for that matter.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Always stop by the customer service department before taking pictures at Whole Foods, lest you get “yelled” at.

Cinnamon Crumb Cake

Cinnamon Crumb Cake

Oh, I happened upon this lovely cinnamon crumb cake as I mosied my way over to the bakery area of Whole Foods Market.  As you can clearly see, I didn’t really have a choice but to put it into my shopping cart.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, buy yourself a cinnamon crumb cake—or better yet, make one from scratch.

Honey Toasted Pecans

Honey Toasted Pecans

Oh, man!  You all better hurry and get to your local Whole Foods Market for these delectable buttery honey flavored pecans!  How you can pass these things up, I’ll never know.

I was over in the bulk bin section of the store and my eyeballs spotted what was labeled “Honey Toasted Pecans”.  Hmmmm, I just had to have a look-see—and look-see I did with my nosy self.

They looked so shiny good in the bin.  The honey just made them glisten like diamonds.  I figured they’d taste similar to the cinnamon sugary nuts you’d find being sold in a kiosk in the middle of a mall.

Honey Toasted Pecans

Well, BOY, these are SO much better!  I fell in total love after I ate the first pecan.  Of course, I devoured them all as soon as I got home.  They’re like potato chips—you can’t each just ONE.  It’s impossible.

The sad thing is, I had only bought a handful for my first go ’round.  So needless to say, I had to make a plan to trek all the way back out to the store a couple of days later to get an entire pound at the very least.

These delicious pecans cost $10.99 per pound—so they weren’t cheap.  But they were worth every bit of love on my tongue.  Happy days!

So, if you have nothing else to do today, run to your nearest Whole Foods Market and grab a pound or two of these lovely honey toasted pecans.  Your taste buds will thank you.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Savor every bite of every morsel of these pecans.  You really appreciate the taste even more when you realize you just paid $10.99 a pound for these things!  Ahhh, the good life.

Potstickers For The New Year

Potstickers

Pork & Vegetable Potstickers made with dumpling dough, ground pork, green cabbage, celery, onion, and a mix of ginger, garlic, and black pepper.

Well my New Year’s resolution to eat a little healthier went right down the drain as soon as I woke up this morning.  The first thing I stuffed in my face for the new year was one of those gigantic plumpalicious cinnamon rolls from the diner—or at least HALF of one.

To be fair, I didn’t buy it today—it was leftover from last night.  So is it still technically my fault?  Should I have known to throw it in the trash at midnight last night?  Isn’t it still considered 2013 food, technically?  I did eat a bowl of oatmeal this morning right afterwards to try to wash it out of my system.

PEOPLE, I’M LOOKING FOR SOME KIND OF CREDIT SOMEWHERE!

Sweet N Sour Sauce

Let’s move on to my non-homemade potstickers-from-a-box.  This is what I resorted to since I spent 90% of my day trying to figure out all aspects of my new camera—so I wasn’t in much of a cooking mood after reading that lengthy instruction manual.  Who knew a wee camera could have 252 pages of instruction on CD to accompany itself?!!

And with some of the pictures I’ve taken today, I swear my cell phone did a much better job.  I’m sure it was user-error and there was probably a setting I should have left well enough alone.  But I’m still in the learning and playing phase with said camera.

Enjoy my first blog photos with the new camera while I still try to get the hang of it.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, spend your day reading a 252-page instruction manual.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Nothing wrong with breaking a New Year’s resolution a few hours after midnight.  It happens.

Chicken Noodle Soup For The Throat

Chicken Noodle Soup

When you feel like the dickens, you definitely don’t want to cook and you barely want to eat.  A scratchy sore throat, achy body, and stuffy nose wants nothing more than some hot chicken noodle soup at 500ºF immediately, if not sooner.  Oh, the agony.

I opened the box, dumped it into the pan and while waiting for the heat to kick in I decided to peruse the soup box.  Wow!  The soup inside the pan and the soup on the box did not look exactly the same colorwise.

Chicken Noodle Soup

Where are they getting all that ‘green’ color in the picture on the box from?  No, seriously?  I didn’t see it inside the pan at all.  Then I figured to be fair, hmmm, maybe it needs to be inside an actual bowl like in the picture before you see it or before it looks that scrumptious.

As you can see, the bowl made no difference whatsoever.  Though the soup was good, please don’t deceive me with pretty pictures on a box with unrealistic contents that are nowhere to be found.

(I tell ya, it’s the little things you notice when you have a lot of time on your hands feelin’ like the dickens.)

So, if you have nothing else to do today, inspect all your food packaging in comparison with the actual contents on the inside. That should make for an interesting day.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Things are not always as they seem apparently.

My Favorite Whole Foods Cashier

Whole Foods cashier

I have to admit, in some stores I have a favorite cashier.  Richard is my favorite at the Whole Foods Market.  He’s so nice, polite, and very accommodating to all the customers.  He’s very good at his job and pleasant to everyone.

If only I had the patience of Richard.  I have to say he just smiles away his day to customers that would drive me bonkers—and I’ve been behind those customers in line, let me tell you!  His demeanor is utterly amazing.

Now if only Richard could be my cashier and check me out of any and every other store I shop at—what are the odds that’ll happen?

So, if you have nothing else to do today, and you’re in Whole Foods Market—look for Richard and zoom over into his line.  Try different cashiers in your favorite stores until you find a cashier favorite.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  With all that cashiers have to deal with in a day, if they can have patience—so can anyone. Ohm………

Veggie Cake Patties

Veggie Cake Patties

Veggie Cake Patties

I’m gonna start off by saying “no, thank you” off top to these li’l patties.  These were some type of Veggie Cake Patties and Potato Salad that I got in the Whole Foods deli area.

The potato salad was A-ok.  The veggie patties—they were a hard swallow.  I tried them cold and then I tried them warmed.  They tasted a lot better warmed in the microwave, but I still would never eat them again.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, try a veggie cake patty if you dare.  Or better yet, maybe stay away from these two in particular.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Sometimes you just gotta have the right taste buds to enjoy what life can offer you.
