These ladies stood out from afar.  The first thing I noticed was their twin hairdos.  You could tell they had fun with their wardrobes before leaving the house.  Between the bold prints, the accessories, and the hair—it was definitely a girls’ day out.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, play with prints and accessories until you find something that works for you.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Trying the twin hair thing with your friends every once in a while should be fun times.

Zigzag Style

I saw these pants flutter past me and I just had to have a look-see.  I like that they’re not plain old black pants.  I love how she kept the top simple because it brings out the pants that much more.  Then she did just enough accessorizing with the jewelry to finish it off.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, think about ways you can introduce some zigzag or funky prints into your wardrobe.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  There’s nothing wrong with channeling your inner zigzag so folks will stop and have a look-see.

A Warm Hat For A Blistering Cold Day

Fur Hat

Hat—Outdoor festival

I knew this hat would come in handy at some point, but I kept forgetting all about it—mainly because it found a home inside a bottom drawer that I rarely go into.  This little fur hat keeps my head toasty warm on cold winter days.

I love when I “discover” hidden clothing and accessories that I’ve forgotten all about.  They could be buried somewhere deep in the trenches that I rarely access on a day-to-day basis.  That’s why I’m so surprised when I “find” them and they resurface.

I was out and about at a yearly outdoor festival about five years ago when I happened across one of several little huts selling various items—which included this hat staring back at me.  I just had to have it.

For those of you that don’t know, I’m not a cold-weather girl at all.  The only positives I see about the blithering cold are being able to wear my winter fashions—and the possibility of a workplace shutdown if there’s a good amount of snow.  Other than that, I could do without cold weather the rest of my life.

And now with the warm weather quickly approaching (fingers crossed), I figured I might as well get what use I can out of this hat since I plopped down perfectly good money for it and haven’t worn it once in the five years since I’ve had it.

I’m a big believer in not “saving” your good things for only special occasions that may or may not happen.  Every day is special because you get to live another day.  I say wear your good clothes, hats, shoes, bags, and use your best china dishes and all your other things.

After all, you got these things for yourself to enjoy—so you should enjoy them on a regular basis while you have the chance, not once in a blue moon.  After all, when you’re gone—someone else is going to enjoy all the fine things you got for yourself to enjoy with your hard-earned money.  Which technically means you’re buying things for everyone else to enjoy after you’re gone.  That’s NONSENSE and crazy talk, I say!

So, if you have nothing else to do today, rummage through your home and see if you can’t find something that’s been hidden away for a while that you can actually enjoy today and on a regular basis.  You deserve it after all.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Don’t keep your things buried where you’ll forget about them for ages.  Use your good things while you can—and don’t worry so much about things cracking, breaking, wearing out, ripping, and whatnot.  That’s all the more reason for you to acquire something new to enjoy when the time comes to replace it!

Closet Organization

Walk-in Closet

I tell you what—if anything keeps me sane in this world it’s an organized closet.  Not just an organized closet either—a neat and organized home in general.  Clutter and disorganization are the bane of my existence.

I’ve lived amongst disorganization before and, believe me, it drove me nuts.  Who wants to come home to that everyday and be surrounded by madness?  My whole body just stresses out and tenses up seeing so much clutter.  I mean, you can never find anything either and it takes forever to get ready for the day.

My favorite neat freak, Colin Cowie, is spot on in that everything should have its place.  You feel great, you’re not stressed, and you know where everything is at a moment’s notice.  Amirite?

Not saying I’m perfect with this or anything—but I do try my best.  I do have my moments where I lapse but it doesn’t last very long, I tell you.

This also makes it somewhat fun getting dressed and putting outfits together everyday.  You can actually find things when you organize your clothes by item, style, and colors.

I decided the sweaters here should have a space of their own in an armoire off to the side.  Inside the bottom drawer are various gloves and winter scarves & hats.  I figure I’m only going to wear these things during the freezing cold winter months whereas the walk-in closet has pieces I can wear all year-round.

The coat closet is not as spacious as I’d like, but it’ll do.  I can’t possibly stuff one more coat in there though.

I just love my tie hanger.  It keeps my ties organized just the way I like them.

The hats just kind of found a place on their own and put themselves on a rack over a door.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, organize your wardrobe, all your closets, and then your entire home.  You’ll feel so much better afterwards.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Life is so much more relaxing, peaceful, and joyful sans clutter and disorganization.

A Basic Black Flat Shoe

Black Shoes

Shoes—Shoe Carnival

It’s a BUY ONE, GET ONE HALF-OFF SALE, folks!!

This post is strictly because I’ve only had ONE fashion post up now since I started this blog.  I’m not living up to the name of this blog very well.  It’s become more of a food blog (not that I’m complaining)—but I did warn everyone on my ‘About Me’ page that this would probably happen.

There are a few reasons the fashion department is lacking:

  • I haven’t been shopping for clothes, shoes, etc., in ages (totally unlike me)
  • I need to buy an actual camera that takes much better pictures than my cell phone is doing
  • I need to find people wearing something interesting that is worthy to snap and put onto this blog
  • I need to find an official photographer that can take pictures of me each day in my own clothes
  • I need to stop being so lazy and just do it all already

So the best I could come up with right now is a boring pair of flat black shoes.  I bought these shoes, mainly, so I could have a happy walk into work each day.  I’m a heels girl myself—the higher, the better.  But who in the world can walk miles in heels?!

When you have to walk two super long blocks from where your car is parked to where the front door of your job is located—pahleese!  I’d rather stab myself with a fork all the way there.  This is why I choose to carry my heels in a bag and walk in my flats so I can remain as happy as I’ll be for that day.  Then I change them.

So it was a Shoe Carnival buy one, get one half-off sale!!  They were the perfect fit and comfort level all the way around and it’s hard for me to find perfect black flats because there’s always something not quite right with them after I’m wearing them (too small, too big, too tight, they hurt, not comfortable, etc.).  You never really find these things out until after you’ve taken them home and worn them a few days.  By then, you can’t return them.

So since perfection was found with the first pair I bought, naturally, I went back and had them order more for me (since they were out of them by then) and I bought somewhere in the realm of between—hmmmmm, I dunno—3 to 5 pairs total (leaning more towards 5).

(Don’t judge me.  They’re gonna wear out quickly as much as I’ll wear them.)  Now if only I can pry that little circle off the front of them—not digging that too much.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, go to a buy one, get one half-off sale at Shoe Carnival or some other shoe store and find yourself the perfect pair of shoes.  Buy yourself several pairs if you love them that much like I did.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  If you walk in high heels for any distance, you ultimately end up walking like Frankenstein and have the same look he has on his face.  And there’s nothing sexy or attractive about it.  And trust me when I say I’ve seen you look that way, ladies!  Pain is too hard to hide.

Waterfall White Fashion

Waterfall White Fashion

In a white dress

This is an outfit I chose for an outing with a date.  I couldn’t begin to tell you where I got the dress, shoes, or bracelet, but I pulled them from my closet and thought the combo would be a fun date outfit—the all-white look.  And I’m definitely one of those people who believe you can wear any color any time of year.  If you know you’re a person that can pull anything off any time of year, then hey, you don’t have any problems.  So I don’t believe in that ‘no-white-after-Labor-Day’ nonsense.

Needless to say, the date didn’t turn out to be so fun—but it was what it was.  You only get one shot with me, sweet cheeks!

I loved the background where this picture was taken.  It’s directly in front of a hotel in a ritzy part of town that had a fabulous waterfall.  The perfect spot for a picture.  Sadly, this was the only good memory from the evening.  And, thank goodness, I got it on camera!

So, if you have nothing else to do today, try the all-white look or any look for that matter, go out and do a photo shoot in front of some beautiful scenery, and put your pics into a photo album as a keepsake.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Find people who are deserving of the time and energy it takes you to get ready for a date and will be great company.  Ugh!
