Oooooo, Look At The Veggies

Sauteed Spinach

Sautéed Spinach made with spinach, turkey bacon, fresh garlic, balsamic vinegar, and salt & pepper.

All these little extras made eating spinach taste so much better than eating it plain.

Steamed Broccoli, Steamed Squash with seasonings, Steamed Brussels Sprouts with salt & pepper.

I just love my little steamer basket.  You can put it inside any sized pan and make it expand as wide as you need it.  I’ve never had one before and you know how excited I get when I get myself something new to try!

Cabbage

Cabbage made with shredded carrots, lots of butter, and salt & pepper.

This was SO good!  I attribute a lot of it to the massive amounts of buttery goodness.

Sauteed Asparagus, Peppers, & Onions

Sautéed Asparagus, Peppers, & Onions made with asparagus, sliced yellow peppers, sliced red onions, Parmesan & roasted garlic vinaigrette, and topped with Parmesan cheese.

I used canned asparagus in this rather than fresh and I used a slightly different type of vinaigrette—and it was OH SO delicious!

Sauteed Kale

Sautéed Kale made with fresh kale, chopped garlic cloves, and salt & pepper.

I just love kale made this way.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, get to know your vegetables and play around with them a little.  Buy yourself a steamer basket, too—you’ll love it!

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Vegetables taste SO much better when you can season and doctor them up just the way you like.

  1. No kale here in South India as well 🙁 But we have other types of leafy greens. I like the idea of spinach and balsamic vinegar. Should give that a try next time.

  2. I sauteed kale this evening the exact same way with garlic and a bit of olive oil to serve with a roasted chicken. I thoroughly enjoy the dish as well and it is very easy to make!!

  3. Everything looks so good! Even the brussel sprouts, try as i might I just cannot like those little suckers…My Mum used to have a steamer basket like that, such a handy little thing, fits in any pot you have going.

    1. Yeah, I love the steamer basket. And the Brussels sprouts really are not that tasty. You really do have to season them down just to get them half-way edible. But they are good for you.

  4. I have never eaten Brussels sprouts (I have seen it, though) in my whole life… and I have never seen the Kale (except on Rachel Ray show).
The first time I saw Brussels sprouts in the big supermarket, my reaction was, “What in the name of the chuchangaville is this thing?! Is it safe to eat?”
My friend called me a judgmental eater for that!
“You’ve eaten bat, snake, lizard, rabbit and God-knows-wha-else! Now you are judging that poor veggie for its look?!!!”
    LOL

    1. That’s funny! And, EWWWWW, if you’ve eaten all those things, Hari! I could never do that. But I love the kale with garlic, salt & pepper or sometimes I’ll blend kale in a smoothie with sweet fruit like apples or oranges—anything that makes it taste better. You have to really season the Brussels sprouts though to eat those. They don’t taste that great to me.

      1. I am very curious about Kale. I have never seen it anywhere in Indonesia, not even in Bali where many people from other countries live!
About the exotic foods, I was tricked into eating some of them. Do you know that in Sulawesi, people eat cats and paddy mice? 😀

        1. Oh, no, say it isn’t so, Hari, about the cats and mice! And if anyone ever dared trick me into eating exotic foods like that, there’d be a major butt kicking involved in some way shape or form. You can believe that! And, of course, there would be PAYBACK! Kale is just a green plant of some sort. I just assumed everyone had access to it in some way. Is that where you are in Indonesia? I shall ship you some kale or you can just lick your computer screen.

          1. Ha ha ha
I became curious about Kale after I watched an episode of Rachel Ray show. I think I should try harder to find it. Who knows they do import it nowadays.
Cats and Mice are “daily” food in Sulawesi. You can Google it! 😀
(smoked mice, actually. The photos my friend took showed that they were as big as my shoes. Yes, she tried them. She was in Bunaken for the diving festival)

          2. I think I’ll pass on the googling. I know it’d gross me out. Maybe I’ll check it out later at some point. We have kale all over the place in every store possible just about. It’s kind of all over the place like McDonalds. Let me know if you ever have luck finding it.
