I Got Myself Into Trouble Again

Cinnamon rolls, scones, danishes.
Amazing cookies & baked goodness.
Cookies galore.
Pretzels and more pretzels.

Is it no surprise that they “yelled” at me again for taking pictures in Whole Foods?  I should have known better.  I just couldn’t contain myself when I passed through the bakery and saw the display case.

This was a different set of people who “yelled” at me though.  So they had no idea I had already talked to a manager months ago when this same incident occurred.

It was my fault, after all, because I should have first stopped and told a manager in customer service like they suggested I do the last time this happened.  At least they let me finish taking my shots.

So, if you have nothing else to do today, enjoy the lovely bakery department at your nearest Whole Foods Market—or any bakery for that matter.

Take-Away Life Lesson:  Always stop by the customer service department before taking pictures at Whole Foods, lest you get “yelled” at.

  1. Funny that they yelled at you. I go into stores for work on a pretty regular basis, and have definitely gotten “in trouble” for taking pictures, too. But seems pretty innocent to take pictures of delicious-looking baked goods!

      1. At least sometimes it’s because we have a real camera and not a smartphone – looks more suspicious for sure! I also go into stores with videographers sometimes though. Try hiding from the store employees with that one… oh, the joys of consumer research 🙂

I haven’t got many good yelled-at-for-taking-pictures stories, but I was prowling around Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, [1] once a couple springs ago, before they had opened up for the season, and someone from the amusement pier approached and gave me his card and said if I wanted to take behind-the-scenes photographs to call and he could arrange an appointment. Unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to take him up on it before I moved away. But I felt like I had roused something big that way.

  7. Sadly, we don’t have a Whole Foods near us. The closest is currently three hours away, so we have to rely on Farmer’s Markets and the natural section of our grocery store. That means I’ve had no experience with them, so I have to admit I was shocked to read that a store would get so upset over someone taking photos (in this smartphone age, no less, when everyone has a camera, essentially in their pocket). So strange. What is you had been sending those photos to someone to ask what they wanted out of the case? Just seems so weird they would get upset over something like that. However, I will say thanks for taking them. It all looks delicious! 🙂

    1. My sentiments EXACTLY! Don’t they realize EVERYONE and their grandma has a picture-taking cell phone on their person at all times? How are they going to police everybody?! And you’re right—people are always taking pictures to send to someone to see if they like something or want something before they buy it. I took pics at a furniture store one time so I could look at the pics at home to get an idea of what the furniture would look like with the rest of the decor in my home. Thank goodness, I had no problems there. But some of these businesses really need to simmer down a bit. You go with the idea of promoting their store and saying nothing but positive things—and then you end up talking about the negative experience. Such is life.

  15. I think it is important to get yelled at every so often. The world is full of silly rules, which silly people clutch to all too tightly.

  22. I wish we had a Whole Foods in my area, or any bakery for that matter! (I don’t count Wal-Mart and Kroger as bakeries, at least not around here, lol.) Great pics, now I’m hungry!!! 🙂

      1. We actually have one (ONE!) bakery in my area, at least in a 50 mile radius. And it’s not like we live in the middle of nowhere, it’s just that bakeries aren’t a big thing around here like they were back in NY. The one bakery we do have doesn’t have much at all. No breads, a few muffins and cookies…bleh. If I had the time I swear I would open my very own “NY Italian” bakery here in Kentucky.

    1. Yeah, they are an expensive store—except I find milk cheaper here than anywhere else. I still can’t figure that one out.

  25. This happened to me back in the late 70’s, when I was cruisin’ San Francisco department stores on a vacation. I could see their point once they ‘splained me; I was just naive. I was pretty obvious with two huge film cameras hanging around my neck. My how times (and film) have changed.

    So if you ask, then it is okay?

    1. Well, with them apparently “getting approval” is what you need so everyone doesn’t freak out. They really just want to know who you are and why you’re taking them first.
